Nearly half of NWC water unaccounted for!

The Auditor General has outlined the impact leaks and theft have on the NWC's revenue collection.
Between 2008 and last year, of the 270 billion gallons of Non Revenue Water produced, 132 billion could not be accounted for due to leaks, while unauthorised consumption accounted for 137 billion gallons.
The situation was exacerbated as the company only collected 26 percent or 93 point 2 billion dollars of the remaining 31 percent of billed water production.
To correct the situation, the Auditor General has suggested that the NWC immediately develop a comprehensive water loss management strategy.
The strategy should include a robust plan to repair 95 percent of reported system leaks within the required one to three days.
The NWC is also being urged to put systems in place to complete all Non Revenue Water reduction projects before the end of the 2013-2018 tariff periods in order to realize efficiency gains.
